Q. What is an emulator?
An emulator is a piece of software that uses your hardware to emulate, or imitate, another piece of hardware. Emulation and emulators are officially permitted dew to the fact that the emulators are not copies of the original piece of equipment. They are original software designs that have similar characteristics as the emulated hardware. The emulator reflects the creativity of its maker, and almost never has any actual connection to the original design. There are often many different emulators off of a single piece of hardware and the different emulators also have different characteristics themselves. So choosing the right emulator can be difficult, which is why you should always try them and ask around for other peoples favorites.
Q. What is a rom?
ROM stands for "Read Only Memory", and is machine code that tells a computer what to do, how to operate. Binary image files. Known as the cart dump, special hardware is used to dump the computer code stored in a ROM-based delivery system used in your typical videogame cartridge. C. Emulators
Q. I can't get emulator X to work with game Y.
Unfortunately we are unable to help you with these types of problems. We are not the programmers of the emulators and are not familiar with how all of them work.
If you wish you can try making a comment on that emulator to see if anyone can help you or you can make a post on our forums and another member may be able to help.
Please do not email the administrators with these types of questions, they will simply be ignored and deleted.
D. Points
Q. How do I add a rating?
In order to submit ratings you must have an account at TheRoms. If you do not then please register first.
After registering it is as simple as browsing to the game or emulator you wish to rate. Look for the stars that are beside the name of the game and click on how many stars you wish to rate that game or emulator.
You will receive a confirmation that your rating was saved.
If you wish to change your rating, simple go back to the item and rate it again, this will replace your old rating with the new one.
Ratings also earn you points so it's a great way to climb the top members list!
Q. How do I upload screenshots?
First, you must have your screenshot saved as a jpg, gif, or png file. If it is a different filetype then you can use an image editing program such as Paint to convert it to an acceptable file.
Second, the file must be less then 150 kb. If it is higher you must either make the image smaller, or save it with slightly lower quality. Be careful though because if you reduce the quality to much your screenshot will not be approved.
Third, make sure you are logged into your account. This ensures that you get credit for uploading the screenshot as well as the points.
Fourth, browse to the game or emulator your screenshot is for and click on the "Add New Screenshot Here" link. Now you can browse to your screenshot file and upload it to the site.
The screenshot will be forwarded to one of the sites administrators for review. This is to ensure the screenshot is appropriate for the website and for the correct game. This usually takes one or two days.
Uploading screenshots counts as five points so it is the fastest way to get to the top members list!
Q. How do I earn points?
Points are earned by participating in different activities on the website such as posting comments, voting on polls, uploading screenshots, and rating games.
You can take a look at the top 100 members using the top members page or you can view their profile to get a more detailed breakdown of how they have earned all the points.
E. Comments
Q. What does flag mean?

This helps keep the website clean and we appreciate your help in reporting inappropriate comments.
