This might sound stupid, but have you tried a CD lens cleaning kit...? I had the same problem, just turned out the lens was super gross dirty.

what gen is your ps2? you know some of the earlier ones just end up going bunk. first they wont play psone games, then comes dvds, and soon games and music drop of the "playable media" list as well(in no particular order). sweets right tho, clean it, itll probly help.

If you want to adjust the laser it self, ie move it either up or down. There is a white wheel that does it. I forget every little step, but the most important one is placing an black line wwith marker on it towards some little screw that beside it, or where something is facing. then slowly turn it counter clockwise, load disk/repeat till you get it.
