Lamp speaks the truth. Anyway, some more.
Mars Matrix (Dreamcast) Definitely one of the trickier-to-find-but-still-possible-to Dreamcast games out there. I think I own one of only several thousand copies available - but damn, it is a good game. It's an overhead vertical shooter from Capcom, with some wicked cool touches. It plays like your basic fast-paced shooter with cool weapons, including an upgradable missle/laser, a powerful short range "hammer", and the kickass Gravity Bomb; you hold in a button to suck in all of the bullets onscreen and you may either release a small amount to help you in the short time, or charge up and release a huge blast that hits everything on screen. The strategy comes when you realize that a full-blown Gravity Bomb takes a long time to "de-charge" before you can use the ability again, whereas smaller bursts allow for more frequency. Add to this an awesome experience point system: enemies drop cubes every time they're blasted, and the more you pick up in succession the better the multiplier will be. These points can be used in the game's store, letting you buy continues, ship upgrades, bonus levels, and even videos of pros showing the best way to complete each level. There's an insane amount of depth in this game.
Panzer Dragoon Orta (Xbox) From Smilebit at Sega who also brought us GunValkyrie and the Jet series comes what is possibly the Xbox's most visually stunning game. It - like Mars Matrix - is a shooter on rails, but this game is in 3D and takes much advantage from Xbox capabilities. Your vehicle is a dragon, and with the snap of a button it can transform into any of three different dragons: one light and quick but weak, one intermediate, and another heavy but powerful dragon. Depending on how much you use them and how well, they will gain experience, so it is best to balance your playtime with each. but it's up to you. Sometimes you will face dozens upon dozens of enemies at a time...sometimes you will face a complex boss that requires your full attention. The game is pretty tough, but it is oh-so-worth it if only to witness the confusing-but-cool storyline, great music, and marvelous graphics. The art in this game is like no other.
