Square Enix considering Kingdom Hearts sequel, Final Fantasy VII-2?

News

Tetsuya Nomura comments on the current possibility of sequels for two of the company's high-profile RPGS.

In the latest issue of Dorimaga, Square Enix designer Tetsuya Nomura--known as the character designer for past Final Fantasy titles and Kingdom Hearts--made a number of comments regarding possibilities of sequels.

On the issue of a Kingdom Hearts sequel, Nomura stated that he would like to clarify that a sequel has not been officially announced at the current time. Nomura said that although he hopes that the title will be developed, Square Enix and Disney have not made any agreements yet. However, Nomura hinted that the possibilities are good, saying that there were already some talks with Disney about making a sequel while Kingdom Hearts was in production.

On the possibility of a Final Fantasy VII-2, Nomura said that the chances of it happening are unrealistic. Nomura explained that Final Fantasy X-2 was able to be released since it utilized the Final Fantasy X engine, allowing production of the game in one year at only half the usual development scale of a Final Fantasy title. However, to make Final Fantasy VII-2, everything would most likely have to be created again from scratch since the data from the original Final Fantasy VII cannot be used. Thus, producing a Final Fantasy VII-2 would require the development scale of a normal Final Fantasy title.

This was posted on gamespot quite some time ago. Also right now rumours suggest that Square-Enix will be focessing on another Front Mission game.

Ive heard rumors that Square Enix might be bringing out FF7-2 for the psp.. They dont want to use the ps2s graphics engine or the playstation ones engine for it.. Somehow the specs of the psp will be like a beefed up playstation not like the ps1..

You can tell. It so blurred in some places, not to mention the artwork not even the same style used by most of the artists..
PSP maybe a beefed up version of the playstation. But wouldn't it be simpler, and more profitable to produce it for the playstation 2/3? since people still dont know the type of installation base the psp will have. Also there is l speculation on how long batterly life will be, and how much it'll cost, not to mention the actual graphics. Paper specs is nice and all, but a prototype version running tech demos would be nice to show some game magz and the like.. Lets not forget the price. For a portable I think it fair to say noone wants too spend no more then 180 on it total.

180? Shit, no. Customers see GBA for $80, they see PSP for $100 more - they get the GBA. PSX hardware is cheap as hell to produce nowadays, though. It's probably just the screen that will cost them a fair bit of money to produce. I don't see this thing launching at any more than $100-120.

Anyway, I'm really skeptical about it. PSX hardware is DATED. 3D PSX games have never looked great, and it looks plain old bad nowadays. I hope that a lot of developers try to bring 2D power from the little console, instead of wasting their efforts on half-assed 3D games.

It looked great when the games where 2d sprite based to a point, I know a lot had 3d backgroupds and such. The only ones that come that had graphics like that would be WildArms, Tales Of Destiny, and Saga Frontier. Something I would hope they stick too with this, if they do release it. I miss the days of simple graphics that look great and eye catching at the same time. While managing to be clean of graphical bugs(to a point). With out having to play in a buggy world filled with glitches, clipping, and badly drawen distances.

And I said 180 cause I live in canada. If for chance it say 120, then that roughly 140,160 canadian. And lets go one higher and say that with out store markup. With out the 15% tax we have to pay. 8%gst 7%pst

I certainly hope they don't make a sequel to FF7. That would almost certainly ruin the story, and I'd rather them concentrate on something new.

How would it ruin it? If they polled it off right, it would be the greatest and only add. Like perhapes having the game take place just before the birth of septhorith, so that we can see futher into that. Or even when the ancients where around. And add something that perhapes have the entire story take place from a differante POV(like playing as an turk). It screams potential.
More so then FFX-2
