Any of you guys played CS:S? I imagine its only people who played the orginal CS or CZ that will have actually bought it. I bought the silver pack which includes Day of Defeat: Source, CS:S and of course HL2.

I was just wondering what other people thought of it...I found it really difficult at first, as it is considerably different from the original cs, graphics are amazing though.

Unfortunately this game reminds me I need a new graphics card :(

I've been meaning to download it (the download is quite an undertaking). Since it has some nice bots that'll fulfill my longing for multi, as PoD bot did for CS and since you guys are feeling it. I may commit.

Its odd cause' they can cap me all they want (in CS). But, when I turn the tables all of a sudden its "LLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGG" or "rjd is cheating". Arrgghh, it pisses me off.

i downloaded the cracked version. i'll buy pre-order half life 2 when they set a release date. but i'm not paying £30 off steam the money grabbing bastards when i can pay £25 and get a nice box. it wont feel like i've actually bought something without having it in physical form.

but anywho, i didn't like it at all at first. i just hate the way the crosshair doesn't behave like it used to. it stays still now instead of going up in the air like in good old normal cs.
but i'm getting to enjoy it more now. but the graphics lag badly needs fixing, a lot of people are getting it. and things seem to flicker a lot which gives a headache.
but the graphics are amazing. cs_office is the best looking map i've played so far, if you shoot the computers you can shoot all the components out, the way the glass breaks is nice, and CT spawn has a really well made atmosphere to it.
Also, the water is truely sexual.

lol yeah actually that was on 1280x1024 with 2x AA, but on a private server.

I run it in 1024x768, high details. Online I usually get a framerate between 40 at absolute lowest and 130 absolute highest, generally hovers around the 70-85 range.

Its not too bad really, Ive got used to it now, but its a massive shock when you're used to 100fps on regular cs.

Oh yeah sorry to disappoint you rjd, but there are no bots yet. Its been suggested that they might implement them at a later date, but valve being as shit as they are, the game isnt complete but they've released it anyway.

I don't know if you guys heard of it or tried it and it sucked.

It's called shrikebot and there is another called strumbot. That are supposed bots for DoD.

Here is the shrikebot page. I couldn't find the strumbot one though.

edit...

Hah, I get it. There are not bots for the CS:S. I meant DoD. In that case I'd rather pick up the game in store or copy it from a friend. Are the system requirements (for silver) really a bloodsucker?

Hours of fun as they camped the water and shotgunned you from afar.

I used Sturmbot last summer for a lan. If they make a CS:S port then it would be the one to get.

Apparently they're in the cracked version, i haven't bothered to look though.
But i'm told the reason they're not in is because they dont port directly from the the old engine well or something blah blah blah, so they wont be out til they're fixed.
Since valve are busy scratching themselves instead of doing things people want, like fixing graphics lag!

cl_smooth 0

You used that? Its lame cos you have to do it everytime you play the game cos it resets, but it stops that crazy jerky shit that goes on e.g. when the bomb explodes.

To be fair though, it could be to do with your computer. If you're still running that same pc that your parents bought you ages ago with no upgrades, its not gonna run the best.

My PC is just above decent enough to run the game in 1024-High Details, Trilinear Filtering, V-Sync on:

3.00ghz P4 800fsb 512k L2 Cache
1024mb DDR 400 Shitty make basic ram
Ati Radeon 9800 Pro @ 415/365
IBM/Hitachi Deskstar 120GXP 8mb Cache ATA100
Xp Pro SP2

I intend to get some decent ram next, ocz or something, then an ATI x800 pro, which Im then gonna mod to an xt, then my pc should be alright until I decide to go 64-bit.

You gotta give your PC its Nvidia card. Come on, almost every game I bought said it was ''powered by Nvidia" (there was a little movie).

I have Halo: combat evolved and its teaching me two lessons. The first, is that the gameplay matters and not the graphics. Secondly, it's teaching me that my PC can't handle some of the shit that'll immerse me more into the game (as in defrag it and turn all the graphic's options to low).

Actually, I bet Loco's old (I liked the specs when he bragged about it a while back :P ) PC can do Halo and CS:S better justice then mine can.

after having a 166 pentium i just had to show off my new beast :D

anyway, the only performance upgrades its had is a radeon 9800 pro. i get anywhere from 40-70fps in game, thats on mainly recommended settings, with my AA and AF pushed up on the graphics card for all games (dont know if that affects source because it has its own settings, guessing it does).
cl_smooth 0 did help a little but not much. still goes laggy for no apparent reason, fps doesn't change it just lags somehow.

lol, just cos they give people free hardware to put "nvidia the way its meant to be played" on their games, it doesnt make me want to buy an nvidia card :P

ffs sake dont buy an XT. Save the money and just buy a pro VIVO card and flash the bios to XT. Its piss easy and works exactly the same.

I wouldnt recommend it on normal cards but with the ICE-QII it can definately handle any heat increase.
