Look, I'm a huge fan of PS2 and a growing fan of the cube and the box but they are already talking about furture consoles. I for one, rufuse to play the "Console Wars" due to the simple fact that I don't have the money and buying new systems like that premotes it. If it continues, things will get alot worse.

This is how I feel and I wanted to know others opions on the subject.

That usually used to be the average life of a console.

With the growing technology, the need to beat another company to an installed base, and the dumbing down of graphics and/or content for lesser system (a la Splinter Cell Xbox vs. Splinter Cell PS2). As painful as it sounds (for me), a company like Nintendo that has a console heritage, but isn't a console leader. Should follow Rockstar's plan, as in having succesful/in demand software and going for the most part multi-platform.

If you mean Nintendo, leaving the console market. It follow segas lead. However if you ment then say making third party games, and crap. I dont think it'll happen. Nintendo pig headed to the extreme.

Console wars are nice and all, but remember. SNES/Genises lasted what 6-8 years? nes, lasted 10 plus, and we all know if sony hadn't gotten into the game. We would probably still be getting that nice 5-6 year life span.

My only gripe right now with this hole console war busniess. Is it pretty much opened it up too the casual gamer. Not saying this is an bad thing since it means mroe money for the developer and stuff, but we're now seeing more clones, and games trying to "Show the most blood". Which is an crying shame.

I don't buy consoles. I enjoy PC gaming much more. Even though you have to upgrade those much less than every 5 years if you want the bells and whistles.

i dont like PC gaming because its so much easier to cheat in an online enviroment, and yeah the fact that you have to have this super awesome computer to run fucking halo without it glitching to shit, whereas since its made specifically for a generic x-box performance for everyone is the same

back on topic, in a way i think console wars can be good because it forces companies to build the best or suffer ala sega (even though sega had the best console at the time, they were just too stupid *or broke* to stick with it). but overall i hate paying for new shit and the fact that devlopers make the jump almost immediatly so there are no games made for the old system, only for the new.
which i think is almost stupid, because if the developers developed for nextgen and oldgen they would probably still make a profit, and not force all gamers to update their console to get new games

Does some remember the old console wars topic on the old board? Most posters aligned with a "Next-gen" console and defended or offended it pretty seriously.

I was one that jumped on the GC's bandwagon, hell I even bought back the GC I bought my niece because she didn't use it. I waded through the shit that was first generation games for the system waiting for my PD update and in the end only bought it for Super Mario Sunshine (my Perfect Dark dreams were shattered by their merge with MS). It eventually was pawned so I could get out of jail (thats another story), but I never had the urge to buy it back or get a new one even with a lower price.

The PS2 I bought a few months later had quite a few games that I wasn't looking forward to, but enjoyed anyway. It's still here and I still pick up used games that I wanted to check out.

On the other hand, I had the pleasure to take care of my step-sister's X-box (hehe, yeah I bought the GC and she purchased the X-box) and stereo while she settled in to job corps (Kicking horse if you ask). I got a nice deal on Halo and to this day think its the best console shooter ever. Thats where the irony is, I waited for PD Zero and even set my GC console up to accomodate it (4 controls and a link cable) and a year later I was practically handed an X-box, my copy of Halo (a better shooter then I imagined PD zero can be) and adequate friends to play it with local/lan or online.

I'm staying out of the next console war for a while. Till, a console convinces me to buy it (as a good one should). Be it through software, hardware, and third party support.

I'm on the GC bandwagon. ANd some what liking it. Out of the dozen or so games I have played on it, since I bought it this march. Only 2 left me with an bad taste in my mouth, Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicals(nintendo needs an slap in the face for it "conectivty bullshit";), and True Crimes(such a fucking, buggy ass piece of shit).

Everything else I've played on it, Splinter Cell, Resident Evil(though boring, is not bad if you take you're time like it was recommend to me), Eternal Darkness,MGS:Twin Snakes, Beyond Good and Evil, Robotech. Have all treated me to some well wasted hours, durning those days I can't get out of this house. Though rentals all, I do plan on buying a few of them just to replay. I also like the controler a lot. It fits my hands nicely, but doesn't cramp up like they would on my ps1.

I have tried PS2. Though not bad, for once sony doesn't interest me. If I do buy one, it'll only be because my pso1 has finally died. Then perhapes, i'll crawl through the pawn shops looking for afew games, since ps2 has an nice beefy rpg libary. Dark Cloud, and Kindgom hearts have caught my eyes for an while, and sons of MGS:Sons of Libraty because i like the mgs series.

As for the X-box. That is defenitly, my next purchase if and when I go off to college . I can not afford an new computer and since Thief 3, Half-Life 2 are two games that I want to play.
Next gen when they're realsed in 2005-2006. I'm staying out of too, unless my GC brakes down.

lol, justin, those were the days eh? lol, the crazy ass days. anyway i liked da box when it came out and am sticking with it, as things progress more and more i like the xbox more and more, so i'm very happy about my decision.

the thing i hate is when i meet real life people who i'm doin stuff with, and then they flip out that i have an xbox and talk about how retarded it is and that the ps2 or the GCN rules, wtf? how do people have the mentality to do that in real life, and they hold grudges. they're usually the type of people who will say they hate [insert system] and all its games and make up excuses as to why each of its games are retarded because [inesert console maker] is evil/retarded.

Yeah, I don't even care about arguing at all anymore. It just seems so pointless. The systems all have their advantages and disadvantages, as far as software, hardware, developers, online play, innovation, and so forth go. PS2 may sell the best, but they are all on fairly equal playing ground. I don't even really have a preference anymore; the Xbox has served me well, surely, but the Gamecube is no slouch and the PS2's library is enormous.

Couldn't of put it better myself.

Seems like all the systems have the specs to present a great 3D game, but what are they going to show graphic wise (the leap in the graphics from n64 to GC and PSone to PS2 we're pretty good), when they are marketing their next systems?

Hehe, no eyetoy mario though......maybe a punchout would be cool.

 :D ;) Yeah i love that quote. And as far as consonle wars go, I know cmpanies should have these to boost the industry, but it isnt really fair to the gamers. You would have to purchase every system to get all the gaems that im looking forward to. GTA, Halo 2, Zelda and Half Life 2 are the current leaders, but without a PS2, its down to the GC and the Xbox to make it up.

"Why cant we all just....get along."

the development of newer, better consoles within 4 years of their predecessor release is fucking retarded. i just got my ps2 last year, so i dont feel like getting a ps3, or a new xbox. plus, they're like $300 a piece! WTF!!!

I terms of console wars for the next generation, I don't really see myself in if I get myself a new computer. I still play video games to a pretty good extent, but in the next few years here, I may have less and less time for them as I have to start getting a lot of my life in gear.

ziptalRank 4: Major General (1,010 Points) ziptal

i think alot of the push for these new consoles is led by the third party developers.

i mean, if they wanted they could continue to develop for the older system after the next gen system came out. I mean if so many people have a ps2, why start developing soley for a ps3, when it takes more money and time to learn whatever the source code is etc. when you could continue to develop for the ps2 and still have a huge base because people who didnt buy a ps3 will still be looking for new games. Plus the market would be smaller because all the play station owned developers would immediatly switch to ps3 to force a market switch.

all that giberish means, if the 3rd party developers didnt jump ship so easily, maybe it would be possible that consoles wouldnt need to come out so often.

UntrueDeathRank 5: Brigadier General (746 Points) UntrueDeath

Yeah but it could also be said. That they jump ship so readily, because the console developer by then has probably given them an development kit. They can't exactly code for the next gen system with out getting some type of kit from the manufacture for said system.
We all damn well that we could probably be getting 8-10 year life spans. But unfortanitly both parties are in the business to make money. Best way to make money, is to get an jump start on the compition though it can fail sometimes...

I heard that someone legally married his TV once.

But back to the subject.

Someone sold my roommate his Box for $75 so he can save to go to Japan when the PS3 comes out.

In my eyes, that's abit far because it will cost twice as much to buy games for it.
