I've been on the lookout for a new guitar and amp but I don't know what to look for. Does anyone have any suggestions on any brands or guitars/amps that are relatively cheap (not crappy cheap... but somthing that is reasonably priced)

If you want really low priced, but definitely playable, look into an epiphone les paul. They're no gibson, but they're not bad.

another thing you can try and look for is used guitars..... there's probibly a shop near you that either deals in or knows where you can get one locally...... you can really pick up some decent guitars for a good price if you look hard enough

You can get a nice cheap taylor for about a grand... and that's a cheap one... but oh my GOD they are the best guitars i have ever played... it's like holding a pair of the most perfect breasts in your hands... (ther i go being vulgar again...) But seriously... they are awesome. lightweight, ergonomic neck, and awesome action.
A venus de milo if i ever saw one.

they're not quite the best, persay...

I'd go with Lamperous and get an Epiphone, they're pretty good knock offs and a decent price

Double . . . I'm assuming you're bloody rich? No one thinks that a grand is cheap . . . O_o;

Most all guitars are reasonable priced, so tell us how much you have to spend.

He said cheap, and they range from about $100, to about $17,000, so what do you consider reasonable? Aside from that, we all know Ness to be under the legal working age, so I HIGHLY doubt he has a few thousand lying around to spend on a guitar.

Ha! far from rich... I don't own a taylor... nonono... a cheap taylor is about a grand... an average one is about 3500-7000. But that's just taylors...

I'm lucky though... my girlfriend (who is rich) begged her daddy to get her a guitar, then never played it, then gave it to me for christmas... it's a nice fender acoustic... i like it (although it's oversized, which is kinda annoying sometimes.)

I'm looking for somthing between $300 and $400. I think I can manage to save my pennies for somthing between there (One of my friends will sell me his Strat for $350.. Is that pretty good?)

honestly, in a 3-400 dollar price range, i'd do some shopping around. You can most definitely get a good electric for that price. Go to music stores, ask questions. Because different people work better with different guitars. i know my next guitar will not be an oversized,, and it'll probably be acoustic-electric. you gotta get what's right for you.

If you have the money, don't get a freakin gibson. They are crap compared to what else is out there. Not even good crap, but muddy, heavy shit. Sustain? You want sustain, get a god damn neck thru, not a 16 pound behemoth. Here, go to www.edroman.com. Buy a guitar from him. If you're good that is. If you suck and you're just buying something pretty to detract from the fact you don't know your modes or whatever, get yourself a gibson. They're made for people who don't know shit these days.

Yay. An anti-conformist desperate to go for the underdog. Fact is, Gibson makes a good guitar. The majority of people like them for that reason. Yeah, they're pretty, and why not? They also SOUND pretty. And if you're truely a good guitarist, you can play just as well on a piece of shit as you can on something great.

Oh, and Nat, a Les Paul IS a Gibson . . . O_o; Definitely not a bad choice though. Unless you're Durn, and you happen to be anti-Gibson, but that's just personal vendetta.

The distortion has little to do with the amp, that's usually a pedal. 20 bucks or so to build, and like 40-50 if you're less technically inclined and have to buy one, for starters. The guitar itself, just go for something low-priced, and play around with it for a few minutes. If you can make a good chord with little or no buzz, go for it. Guitar sound is all in the person playing it, VERY little to do with what's played.

ness dont listen to these people, i just happened to fall on this topic and id say if this is your first guitar get something dirt cheap, and if its your second then you should spend arouns 300 or 400. schecter makes a beautiful guitar but any model under $500 will need work done to it or it will fall apart. ibanez are good for a heavier style and if you just wanna play all around rock go with a fender. you can find em in any price range and theyre durable. my ibanez will crack if i play it too hard, but i can trow my strat at the wall and aint shit gonna happen to it. if you need specifics ive got em, ive been playin for years.

almost so. marshall distortion and tone are easily manipulated into almost any sound you wanna get. i adore playing blues on my marshall with a strat. the only advice id give you without knowing the style youre going for is stay away from crate. ive hated every crate amp ive ever had(3 of em).

that whole thing with the buzzing and whos playing is also true. very true.
