Can anyone help me, I bought a GF4 Ti 4200 8X 128MB about a month ago. It worked fine but after I installed it I started getting loads of random errors on my PC. Recentley my primary hdd has stopped detecting or locks itself randomly and today I turned on my PC and nothing would load. I changed the gfx card to my old ATI 128 Pro and it was fine......WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH MY PC????? I only have a 300 Watt PSU so could power be an issue or do I need to replace my GFX card and get a new hdd????? Please help me!!!!

edit - please move this to computer C&A don;t know why I didn't put it there......guess I'm an idiot! thanks.

I have a 300 Watt PSU atm, it's powering 2 HDD's and a DVD and CDRW. I have two cards plugged in as well. Does this sound like underpowering?

k thanks. What psu should I get when I upgrade I'm getting:

CPU: 2500 Barton
RAM: 512MB 2700
MOBO: Abit Nforce 2 Ultra
GFX: GF4 Ti 4200
SC: On Board
Modem: Shitty 56k
HDDS: 1 120GB
DVD/CD: 1 DVD, 1 CDRW
Floppy: 1.44MB
Cooling: Massive O/Clocking CPU Fan (2 Fans, 1 H/Sink), 2 Standard Case Fans, HDD Cooling Bay

This'll be what it's like when it's finnished and I want enough power to o/clock CPU and GFX, I will possibly get a 9600 Pro to replace the GF4 at some point too.

At least 350watt, If your going to overclock get a 400watt. Make sure you don't cheap out on it though. Get an Antec/Vantec/Enermax

Any harddrive by any manafacturer is fine, the normal user won't notice a difference between them. Seagate's are noted for their near silent operation. So I would go for one of them

No linux experience other that through webhosting. Minimal OSX experience but that doesn't apply. I don't know anyone that uses Linux on a day to day basis.

You realize your giving up alot by switching right

Dual boot dude.....I got XP still but now I have a little less space for my Debian Partition......also it runs alot of things quicker than Windows (Can browse, play music and type a word document w/out system resources going down to 30 or so %).....

One question though I have 1 UDMA 33 Drive and 1 UDMA 66 Drive. I have the UDMA 66 Drive as the primary HDD and deffinatley under Linux it's slower cos it tries to run my UDMA33 Drive as a UDMA66 Drive and it doesn't read at proper speed.......should I swap them around and will this also improve my XP performance?

You should get rid of all older harddrives as fast as you can, You can stop everything from slowing down everything else on that channel by getting a PCI IDE card and splitting everything up.

so you mean have 4 different IDE interfaces then?

Yup, or keep the same speed stuff on their own channel to stop the faster drives from getting hammered

Having more than four devices will strain anything less than a 350watt

I was actually reffering to having another PCI card in my PC. I have another (sorry about my crappy PC) problem with my GF4, it's runs quite hot. I haven't o/clocked it or anything and I've moved my modem to the bottom most PCI slot. Is it usual for GF4's to run hot or should I invest in a system fan too?
