Since we dont have the Computer Q@A thing anymore. figure this just as good a place to put it. I've noticed some odd behavour from my computer, and wondering what some of yahs might think it is.
First it stutteres, HARDCORE every now and then and mysteriously the mouse pointer dissappears, or it hands and freezes.,

secondly something been hogging up ALOT of my ram. Like 196mb is fine on my computer since all it is an internet/homework/p0rn dispesore anyways. but for some fucked reason, something eating up at least 160 of it and I was wondering if anyone could figure this out. I usally have a firewall, virus scanner, and yahoo or msn running in the background plus Opera. other then those appilcations everything else is what windows 98 normal runs.

I have, unforently it AVG, the one I had before couldn't handle Win32 I think it was, which I caught from some stupid site. goddamn did it loose me a lot of information before I got rid of it.
Norton is well a bit to expenisive for my liking.
WHat I'm going to do is try and delete my index.dat file in my temp folder through dos. I never realized that even though I can get rid of an virus, this file may still have traces of it.

Now this is odd. It says DOS can not be accesed, even though the file is there and shit. Nor is it letting me reboot in dos, saying m Dos Exit.pif thing is dening access.. how the hell.. :(

Actually it doesn't sound like a virus at all, it sounds more like adware/spyware..... Those are what cause computer slow downs and take up the memory... Although I could be wrong and it COULD be a virus however you might want to remove spyware anyway... Go download Spybot Search and Destroy from http://security.kolla.de/

After installed go into the program via the start - program way, make sure you choose advanced here. Anyway in the program you should start in the settings screen, scroll to the bottom and make sure the expert buttons are checked (Both of them)... These give you needed options after the scan.

Then click Spy Bot and Search and Destroy.. after that do the recovery and immunize I don't know which is best but when it asks to "fix or delete" I usually just delete.

Nope I don't click on pop ups or install unknowen shit. And I got Ad-ware(it removed roughly 139 tings), Search And Destroy I've tried, but it stopped working suddenly one day. I do got an sister who likes to download shit her friends have tried, cause it "cool" which usally leaves me uninstalling it, checking the reg and what not.
I'm thinkng of phoning up my dad, and seeing if he'll lend me his Norton Ultilities next time I see him.

You can try ad-aware for the spyware which does sound like the problem to me. Also you can use the program, rambooster to free up your ram. Both can be found at http://www.download.com.

It was adware(most of it). Since I posted and downloaded ad-ware that day, it removed quite a bit of it I might add. All of it stopped. But I still think a virus is lurking around in my reg. I've noticed queer behavour. Not to mention not to long ago(before summer), I had the OPP(think state troopers) show up at my door, checking about a 911 call that came from my computer phone line, made while I was in the shower and the computer was turned off.
