So i moved into my new place today, its awesome, center of downtown calgary, great building with awesome facilities. but i had one problem.

Shaw (the only internet service provider) is full of assholes, and they never want to come and install service, so i should technically be without service until October 8th. (1st today). However, due to the fact that i installed a wireless card on my ol 2001 computer, and counting on the stupidity of idiots who get wireless, i know have access to 6, count them, 6 unprotected wireless broadband servers that I can syphon off! i think one might even be T1 access, since it was freaken fast when i was connected.

so, now, i dont have to pay money for internet, and as a result shaw can suck it, and i get free high bandwidth internet from unsuspsecting people around my building.

awesome.

Edit: oh and also, if i really wanted to be a dick, i could go onto any of their routers via there 192.168.0.0 web address and change the settings so that only my Mac address can reach the internet.

Shaw is a real bitch to deal with if they have no compition from what I've heard when it comes to being bandwith nazis so dont go download crazy with yeah new source if they use same. So far I haven't gotten an email from them, but be warry..
If you have the actual cable in yeah appartment hooked up to yeah tv, I suggest you go to shaw ask for an splitter(They're free to customers along with 10feet of cable least that what I got when I said i'll do the install) and install it yeah self. It that simple really, the only differance is the cable guy will more then likely either hook yeah internet up at some terminal in the apartment, or he'll do the exact same thing I suggested.

good advice, and i've had shaw before, haha and i got a couple emails about downloading. I wrote up a long ass email back to them saying that there guidlines specifically stated that residential usuage had no bandwidth limitations, so they could blow me.

a month later, they changed it to specifically say a 10 gig ( i think) download 1 gig upload.

Touche shaw, touche.

I haven't even read mine. But I did call in and ask a tech. He said keep it under 5 gigs a day, and you'll more then fine.

My only true complaint about shaw, there digital tv service is not so spiffy. I like the channel selection more then satalite, but I really do wish they make Video On Demand avaliable in my area. Though browsing the selection for VOD, i might as well stick to roger/blockbuster. Also there new Digital Phone service is apparently the balls, and I would recommand getting it over Vonage, or any other VOIP type service since ShawS servive won't eat up yeah bandwith adding to yeah over all usage quota(they use a differante network for it).

They do cut the server, you just have exeed a certian limit. I've read on another forum that limit is roughly 200gig before they kill the switch since they consider 200gig the abusers.

I love wireless :), I like to tell people I'm walking around while I'm talking to them, just so they know I'm cooler :).

That'd be nice for my phone... somehow the charger plug always stops charging my phones, no matter what phone I get.

that would be awesome. the only downside would of course be the raging healthcare bills of people getting random 120 V shocks as they walked through air

Hee hee...I can see it now; people having to cover their entire bodies in rubber all the time - it'd be great for those with that fetish!
Also, it'd be a great way for psych patients to save money on those expensive visits to shock therapy....It almost sounds like something an HMO would dream up. :P

i guess another upside would be there'd be no need to buy a bug zapper

or a squirrel zapper for that matter

Is it just my computer that has the links just stay in this window? If not, is there a way to make it come up as a pop-up? I keep x-ing out of the window and then realizing I closed the forums too.... haha. (AKA I suck at foruming)
