The electoral votes are placed by people who are selected by the winning party in that state, so generally (and pretty much 100% of the time), a states electoral votes ALL go to the candidate who won in that state. and the electoral college vote #'s are a pretty good rationing of the state populations across. Yeah, it's an archaic system, but there's only been 2 elections in the history of america where a candidate won the popular vote, and lost the election. and only one of them was genuinely played by the rules. The other election was decided by 9 supreme court justices. In our lifetimes, we'll probably see the deconstruction of the electoral college and the institution of a pure popular vote system.
And it's OUR job to make sure our elected officials do what we elected them to. instead of pissing and moaning about it, call your senators, local and national. If they recieve a certain amount of calls and/or letters, (generally between 300-700 depending on the state) They are REQUIRED BY LAW to address the issue in a public setting. C'mon, i know it sucks, but we all as a whole (at least the eligible voters. If not, convince people around you who are to do it for you) need to be more political, and speak up when our government is doing things we don't like.
