I'm basicly curious if any of my fellow canadians on these boards think it time to basicly have an SET election date for priminster. None of this bs where they seem to like calling it every four-five years. I mean look at TV. We have an liberal goverment spending a lot of tax payers money on "re-election adds" and shit. And the goverment has even confirmed there will be an election this year and when.
Anyone else kinda think this is an waste, whn they're bitching about how we don't got enough money for health care and blah blah blah?

i dont like the idea of a set election, because there can be problems with having such a rigid system.

it prevents things such as votes of no confidence, and that is detrimental to our parlimentary system, of a cabinent and an oposition.

There are several other reasons why its bad for Canada as well, but i cant think of them off the top of my head.

but i know i sure as hell wont be voting in the next election.
i'm fiscally conservative, but ideologically progressive, and no party really has that ideology.

plus the election is always decided in ontario anyways, so chalk me up to voter apathy

Unfortantantly you're right about ontario, though don't forget quebec . If you watched the premeire elections we had recently in ontario. Liberals basicly took over pretty much all the ridings, and the NDP got outed(which sucks) while the conseritives may never hold power in this province again, selling hydro one was the biggest mistake ever made.
Though that scandle crap seems to have changed a lot of peoples minds. I know some in my family won't be voting liberal, though unfortantly that probably two or three not counting me in those odds.
But you should vote. People who don't vote, should be shot. It why we had the liberals in power for so long. ANd bitching when you haven't voted, should be an sin.

well i voted in the last election, because i liked who i was voting for
but in the upcoming election, there is no one i want to support. So I dont feel i should have to vote for who i like the least, i vote for no one because i like no one.

and every person has a right to criticize the system any time they choose, regaurdless if they vote or not. Everyone pays taxes and everyone is effected by the decisions that the government makes, so everyone should have a say in how it is run.

To a point. Me an friend had the same argument about who should bitch and groan when the goverment does something, he basicly agrees with yeah view. I do to an extant not totally though. You still could of voted, and at least hope-fully put into power the choice of an lesser evil so to speak. Like one group says, supports an total ban to smoking in bars and pretty much decide to raise the sin tax's, while the other *gasp* realizes it should be up to the actual owner of the establisment, and that people should take responisbitly about there own health and avoid places that alowe smoking if they don't smoke and don't like the smell and shit, while realizing that perhapes they should make smokers who go to the doctors pay, instead of health care. .
Poor example yeah, but I think you get the drift.

A message of sorrow to Americans from your friends across the puddle, we feel deeply for the pain involved, when your president fel off his bike. We absolutely felt that it needed to be told as a headline on British television. We praise your president for not getting a lift but cycling the rest of the way with his horrific minor grazes. We thank you for letting us know on this major incedent!
