I know it's a bit random but I'm not sure whether to carry on with college or not, I'm in quite bad financial difficulties atm and I wanted to know if it's worth giving up and starting to work now (btw I'm 17)

I'm English so college is high-school (16-18) so I'm doing the exams before univercity. I'm not doing a degree cos my teachers say I'll be lucky to get more than one higher grade :( But I know what you mean if by some miracle I do getgood grades it'll make me loads of money but if i don't I wasted my time doing A-Level's....it's just crap how the world works

Stay in school. You wanted advice here it is. You drop out of school now you WILL regret it the rest of your life, I promise you that much. You want an apprenticeship as an electrician (something i actually know a little bit about) you will need to finish school. Electricians need to know math. In the states you have to have a High School Diploma and a year of algebra just to qualify for an apprenticeship. You drop out of H.S., you don't qualify for the apprenticeship. This decision will affect the rest of your life more so than almost any other decision you make. Please take what I am saying into consideration, it is VERY VERY important.

yeah exactly what CJ says, for most after graduate programs (atleast in canada) a high school equivilence is required, and that is for most jobs that offer apprenticeships. most allot of big companys also require that their employees have high school equivilence even if you already have your Journeyman ticket.

It'll harder to get back into the school groove if you drop out and then want to go back. just finish it now and be happy about it later.

I might try and see if I can do a part time course but I don't know if you can do them easily. Also now we have to pay about £1000 - £3000 a term just to learn. That's no way affordable for my budget. I'll try but I think I'll be told to get lost by the bank

mmm... well, I have a pretty good take on this one.

I'm in the American system of education. I dropped out and decided to get just my GED. I kinda do and kinda don't regret dropping out. My problem was that I had such a hatred for the high school and everyone there that I had to leave. I did some other things like get my GED through some other gov't programs. I will still see if I can get my high school diploma (and yes, an HSD is VERY different than a GED). Anyway, if you can fund it, then stay where you are. If you truly hate it and don't want to do it, then leave. Just remember that whatever you do, there are consequences to EVERYTHING, good and bad. Just look at it this way...

What consequences do you want to live with for the rest of your life. If it seems like a lot of pressure, it is. But, if you really know what you wanna do, then don't let anyone in your way. Even though it wasn't the best idea for me to leave high school, I still have the sense of security that I was the one responsible for my actions, and that I made the choice to quit. I don't regret MAKING the decision, I just wish I made a different one, thats all.

So, think about that one.

You know, thats a really good job to get. Hell, you could even be just a banker if you wanted. They must make at least equal to all the money they play with all day.
