Yep. Long story short, I walked into an place yesturday that does inbound tech support only wanting to drop off an resume, since I figured I had nothing really much to lose and needing the cash, hey I'll try anything.
Before l know it, bam I'm hired on the spot and start on the 31 with two weeks of training. Now here the frigging problem, my computer knowledge is hit an miss(basicly scattered between knowing how to do this, and walking through an minefield blindfolded).
Currently it for gateway comps(last tiem I applyed at the place they where contracted to road runner), and best I'm suppecting I'll probably deal with questions like "Hey man, my computer won't burn this CD."(or something wrong with the email and crap easy shit) too at the worste "I installed this new HD and I don't know what happened. It will not let me save to it and crap."=me screwed. So I gotta find an website that'll give me some more troubleshoting help, and hardware knowledge. And I've come up empty, which sucks cause I once found this great freaking site that hand anything and anything on it in FAQ style writing with pictures.
Oh yeah, I gotta pimp out there crap taticular products when the oppertinity arises IE"Well sir, instead of burning those CDs may I suggest buying this lovely MP3 that gateway sells" so if by chance you own an gateway remember kiddys, by this crap. It helps put an extra whatever in my wallet.

I guess you could go out and buy an A+ cert book and read up on that... and even use it for reference. Hell, maybe even get certified.

As for websites... I have no clue.

I hate you so much right now . . . only because I've been desperately seeking employment for the past three years.

Uh... it's tech support man... I think thats like... one of the lowest common denominators for the IT industry.

Either way... it is a job.

As for you Untrue... I had always assumed that tech support didn't take much formal education (the guy I knew had a comp that he basically would search through a database of stuff. That, and craploads of reference books I belive).

Hey, this is my second full time job(of any sort that legal) in an year and I'm 21. So don't threat, it takes time. I just happen to live in an community that has an insane amount of call centers(We got 5 of them).

THA_MLG: Believe it or not it varies on the tech support you're doing. I'm doing basic troubleshoting(as of next week an trained monkey can do my job thanks to an manager re-writing the guides to point and click) so I can basicly use referance guides already printed up for me. If it anything serious I just forward the call to an Tech.
I asked the questions because the test I was given had questions concering IDE cable hook ups, and you normaly don't deal with that for trouble shooting unless you get them to open up the case.

PS: Gateway has this little utility you can download that an harddrive scaner on staroids. It basicly can rewrite the one's and zeros making an virus void. it called gwscaner and you can find it for free on the website.
