PSP and DS emulation

I was wondering what one would be more difficult to emulate in the future.

The PSP will be using a uncommon disc much like the GC does. The DS will be using cartridges, but have the palm-like stylus pad.

Having the bandwidth to download the PSP format would be nice, but it'd defeat the idea of a portable system (unless there is a must play game that you'd rather play on a PC that may or may not handle it, hey some PSone and N64 games are a strech).

The DS seems like the easier option. Imagine having to switch from a mouse to game pad in an intense spot. It'd just be like playing an FPS with a mouse and keyboard (or with a mouse and a wingman).

Does anybody else care if these systems are emulated?

i don't really care for the emulation of these systems...

psp imo is most likely going to fail, and the same with ds. they are getting too fancy

I could see these two portables going somewhere, but I also think the kind of things they're putting on them are a little unneeded (I really don't need two screens to play a game thank you).

I dont think you could actually be any more wrong.

People will buy psp even if its shit because they are sony fanboys, that is a fact. It will be similar with the DS, but I dont really know much about the psp, but the DS actually looks like it might be good.

To be perfectly honest Ill probably buy neither, I drew the line at gameboy advance, £35 for a gameboy game is just a joke.

"According to Nintendo" the DS is NOT the next gameboy, even though it can play gameboy advance games. They are seperate types of consoles in completely different markets  .

I imagine the psp will be like the psx to emulate.

anyway doesnt that thing have a usb port? I'm sure there will be all sorts of hacks and stuff to rip of the disk.

Nintendo seriously said that? That's . . . just plain stupid. It's a handheld and it plays old GB games. . . it's a GB.

slacker52 says

the ds will probelly be more popular and get better emulation stuff, but the psp will probelly not be very far behind it, because of all the sony fanboys. but mainlly, no handheld system has ever been able to compete with the gameboy series [game gear, lynx, game.com come to my mind]

Ive actually looked into it since my last reply in this thread, and I have come to the conclusion that the PSP could actually be good.

It has a fuckload of features that are crazy and insane, unfortunately they only have a 2 hour battery life when playing a graphically intensive game.

Hopefully they will sort that out, then I will buy one next year.

Weren't we talking about which would be more plausible to emulate?

I think that the DS will be easier to emulate, actually it has already been emulated, though not what you'd call 'playable' (it's not much fun to play at all!) and i'm not talking about the touchscreen, I'm simply saying that right now the GFX are all messed up. But the sound is alright.

With the PSP, it will take some time till they can rip from the UMD's properly. But once that happens, PSP could be quite an attractive thing to emulate. Besides for the fact that the iso's are still going to be very big! I'm sure that Nintendo and Sony have really tried hard to try and make it harder for the dumpers but it won't take long until it's too easy for them.

The big question now is whether we'll be able to flash them onto carts or not. Which is almost like warez. Hopefully we can, hopefully we can't. But we'll see :)
