1. Get the latest version of . Visual Boy Advance
2. When you open up your Super Mario 4 ROM for GBA change the settings to:
Menu -> Options -> Emulator -> Save Type -> Flash
You'll have to change this back everytime you play another ROM but that is the practical solution to the problem. You could also make a VBA Over file to do it for you automatically but that's easily beyond most of yours comprehension.
