*chuckles* I make things up, do I?
Back to the topic then eh?
A common way to have your virtual memory set up is to give it 1.5x the actual ammount of RAM you've got. At 612mb, you're not going to want to do that, because having a swap of over 512mb in 98 of ME can cause some pretty serious issues with the memory handling. I'd say if you MUST set your virtual memory, open up your system.ini, find the "[vcache]" line (make one if there isn't one), and just under it, set the ammount with MaxFileCache=524288. Again, seriously, the Windows Virtual Memory managing is perfectly efficient on its own unless you hit over 1GB, and if you did that on Windows 98 or ME, you'd hit stability problems anyway.
Another thing people with over 256mb on an ME system tend to do is set the ConservativeSwapfileUsage to one.
meaning:
System.ini -
[386Enh]
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1
People swear by that for games.
Experiment for a while, see what works best for your computer, and try to ignore the random insults being thrown around.
