I just got a new 120GB external USB harddrive for free from a friend because he thought it was broken. I plugged it in, the hardware wizard found it, and it installed fine. The only problem is it said I dont have a "High-speed host controller" installed. What is it? Is it something external I would have to buy, or something I can just download?

Thanks.

You have USB 2.0? Are you running SP1 for XP? Have you installed the USB 2.0 update?

Yeah dude it'll be you don't have a USB 2.0 port or you ain't got the drivers........did your friend run Windows ME or earlier cos they wonm't read USB 2 stuff. If it's still reading it you'll just get a really crappy copying rate (1.5 MB/sec instead of about 25MB/sec) so it doesn't matter but it'll be slow.

It would probably come with your motherboards driver CD.
