I just switched to broadband:D I'm loving it. However I was wondering what benefits would be had if I buy an router/what type of router(brand) should I buy? And if I purchase one, can I get rid of this software firewall I have?

well from personal experience, i found that the two cheapest were linksys and dlink. Since linksys sucked my balls, i now have a wireless Dlink router (514 i think), it was the cheapest one too. and yeah routers have internal firewalls so you dont need zone alarm.

yeah thats the good thing about routers, no need for ZA or anything. but they can be annoying having to forward ports. and even more annoying when you can't use the market place in the matrix online because the developers send packets too big for it and mr firewall doesn't like that.

My roadrunner cable came with a motorola surfboard and this is the shit.
I don't know how to split the box into 2 connection though.
I bought a linksys wireless network box but I can't make beans happen with it.
My friends pc has a network card but I have a wireless one on my Brand New Dell. ;)
I read the books it came with and I still can't get this peice of crap to work.
I know it works because my pc catches the signal but I stll can't get internet.
I hate computers!...not really.

http://www.linksys.com/tech_helper/intro.html it even has pictures. As for the wireless, make sure you secure it(people like me will come by and use yeah network if yeah don't). Or if it's not letting you connect to it, make sure you check the secerity settings with the software it came with, and open up an port for whatever not connecting. there's more, but I don't know much about wire-less. On the plus side though, if you bought the thing with yeah Dell. you can give'em an call, and they'll more then likely help you configure it since you bought it with the hardware(comp).

Make sure Broadcast ID is OFF and have an encrypted password at the very minimum.
