Anyone know any good websites that sell laptops. Please don't say Dell :P

I really like the Alienware ones I just want to find other sites that are similar to that where you can customize everything you want with it rather than having pre-built packages.

D3ll.... other than PriceWatch.com, i can't think of anything. But we got my bro a good D3ll from eBay, one of the ones u buy, and it's really good. Alienware is nice, but they're expensive.

I know you can't customise them but I'd say go for a compac laptop cos they're well fast and are really reliable (my Dad's a pro computer dude and he swears by them) but they cost nearly as much if not more than Alienware...sorry I know it's not much help

I've been comtemplating wether or not to buy one from the US. The US dollar being as crappy as it is I could probably save a few hundred bucks on it.

hmmm,...could be a good idea......I'd still say go with compac or alienware...what do you actually want this machine for work or play?

Well mostly for school, so for programming etc. But it should also be able to play some games, but I do have my desktop for playing games anyways so it doesn't really matter much about the vid card.

Oh yeah and it has to be an Intel Centrino. They are smaller and have longer battery life which is exactly what I want.

Yeah I think they've got good video cards as well I think so you should be able to play alot of stuff but obviously not everything

Yeah gaming doesn't really matter for it, that's really just secondary because I play games on my desktop.

Don't want a Mac. Although they are pretty sexy I'd rather have something I'm familiar with.

Remember, you can use VirtualPC to emulate windows, though it won't be at full speed, at least you can access anything that was windows only

It would depend on how fast a powerbook you got, which is probably more than you want to spend. If you don't want to game at all I really think a 12" Powerbook is the way to go.

Yeah if graphics don't matter so much then get a shitty ATI card that has it's own memory and get like a 2gHz + processor and a gig of RAM cos that'd be amazingly fast if it's for work

Just wondering how does networking Macs and PCs work? Are they compatible in a network without doing and crazy config settings and the like? Also, how about that VitualPC program running old DOS games? How exactly does the Virtual PC work? Does it just open a new window with 'Virtual Windows' inside it or is it like restarting your computer in 'Virtual Windows' mode? Or better yet is there a site you know that has some good info about it, the M$ site doesn't really say much.

Networking is even easier on the mac, just plug in your cat5 or if you have the airport extreme card it will automatically connect you to the network.

As for VPC I haven't been able to find out any information, hell I haven't been able to DL it yet (But I don't have my mac yet either)

You could try MacNN Forums , you might be able to find something there (I haven't looked yet)

edit:

At my college we have Macs in my photography class...they don't network very well at all with the PC's......I don;'t know anyone whos got a PC server to run reliably on a mac but I know you can easily use a router to share a web connection between a MAC and a PC. We use Emacs at college though so it might be a limitation of the emacs over the imacs/ibooks.

As long as I can get the Mac to share the net connection with the rest of my current PCs then I will be happy.

Right now I just have my PCs and my XBox all connected through a router and a hub. If I throw on a wireless router on there for my laptop then that would be perfect.

It made sense at the time of posting :P
What I meant was you can network to allow web sharing but you can't access a PC File Server easily on a Mac or Vice-Versa.....I don't know what happened but I kinda got confused...too much green I think :D PeAcE oUt DuDeS
