I'm coming across a bit of money, and decided that an laptop maybe the best thing for me. Since I'm in college now, and I'll be travelling with the bus alot from here to other towns. I can't buy an standered comp for this reason.
Anyways, I know alot of you have experiance with laptops, and was wondering if I should be on the look out for any preticular brand. I can't afford an power book unfortently. So here are the two options I have found with in my price range.

Acer Labs.
Screen TXL LCD 14 inch
Celeron 1.8 or so processor
236 or whatever of ram
40 gig hd
Litham battery.
Video card unknown, but I supect it maybe an onboard intel.
56k modem and 10/100
if I buy an wireless adaptor 59 bucks D-link
Price 1,199


Toshiba
15 inch screen LCD I think. I maybe TXT or whatever
2.8 AMD processor, or Intel(I forgot)
512 ram
40 gig hd
same deal with the video card
Wireless included, along with 56k modem, and 10/100 highspeed conection
Price roughly 1,399 or 1,499.


My self I may buy the cheaper one cause I figure I save roughly 116. That may not sound like alot but it enough to buy me food for two weeks.

A few days ago my friend gave me this broken laptop. Its an Averatec wireless laptop.

I dont know the specs yet but it has some good stuff in it.. The LCD and the hardrive are smashed but it turns on with fan spining and lights up.. I think it just needs the LCD and hardrive and it will work. I found this computer new on ebay for about 1k.

get an ibook or something

that can cause problems though can't it depending on what NFS the college are using???/ at my college there was allot of problems getting the Mac and PC networks to work together.....

The man's got a point. I'm running a Celery processor on my desktop.

Even satan couldn't have concocted something as evil as Celerons. He's not even that cruel.

Dont get a Celeron no matter what you do. They are horrible horrible things.

Alright. I thought as much about the Celeron. My OSAP didn't give me enough to buy one though, I miss understood my loan officer about how much I would be reaciving.. But once I get working I can pick one up. I think I'll try to find an cheapie one with an AMD in it..

I can't buy an Ibook, cause I can't seem to find any. I haven't been able to find the futureshop in this town.

Dude, apple has a website. It's even called apple.com. Ain't that crazy? And they sell ibooks there yo.

ibooks are actually really hard to find right now, they are on about a month and a half backorder. there are no stores that have any in stock and won't have any in stock for awhile. same goes for ordering ibooks online

I wouldn't get a mac though if u haven't got loads of money to spare.... they cost LOADS and are quite expensive to repair.... go for an AMD... much cheaper

no. not futureshop

our college actually gives us all laptops to use for the school year. ibm thinkpads, 1.3 ghz drive, 40 gigs of mem, dvd/cdr, i think it has a fairly decent graphics accelerator, and the network here kicks ass. we definitly have counter-strike tournaments all the time.

anyways, i donno what the price would be to buy one from the company or whatever, but we were told replacement costs if it was stolen or whatever was around 750. i think its pretty sweet.
