lol seeing your computer described in writing makes it seem all the worse :P

Hopefully Im should be upgrading mine at christmas, Im finding this processor a bit too slow and my case is boring me. I might also upgrade my GFX but I'm gonna see how it goes when I get my new chip.

Anyway, heres what I plan to get.

This is what I'm hoping to get...now cos I bought a gamecube it's less than what I was planning but anyhow here it is:

CPU: Athlon Duron 1600 (Over-clocked to 2100) (£32)
Cooler: 1 Standard CPU and 1 Stadard case fan (seriously all that's needed) (£15)
M/Board: Abit Nforce 2 (£60)
Graphics: ATI Radeon 9600/Pro/XT 128mb (£45)
RAM: 512 DDR 2700

This'll be alot better (I'll actually be able to play games in 1024 X 768 32bit for once!)

redeye^Rank 7: Major (436 Points) redeye^

for god sake, DONT get a duron. For £10 more you could get a XP 1800+~1.53ghz, and it will be alot faster than a shitty duron.

NaTaKuRank 2: General (1,816 Points) NaTaKu

nah man new Duron's are now the same (or slightly slower) than a standard Athlon XP, they're trying to faze out the standard XP's in favor of the Bartons and fuck have I got the money for one of them! They finally put 256kb of Cache on them and have completely redesigned the chip so it's nealry identical to an Athlon XP......I was told not to bother with the low-end XP's

buying an N-force 2 m/board, you don't need any extra fans or shit for it....dunno why they jus' overclock really well....I read it in one of those random PC mags that tells you how to do crazy shit to your PC like overclock without any extra fans an shit

I have probably the third best nforce2 Ultra400 on the market, and I overclocked my 2500+ @ 1.83ghz to 2600+ @ 2.13ghz...it was a tad hot though at 55C.

But I dont really know, but you'll probably find your computer is alot more unstable even if you overclock a few 100mhz, let alone what you're suggesting.

nah the new Durons WILL run at 2000GhZ without anything more than a standard CPU fan and a case fan, this has been tried and tested by four PC mags in this country....it was recommended as the budget gamers choice, mixed with a 9600 PRO it's only slightly slower than the XP equivalent

I would never waste my time on a duron, let alone an Athlon XP. They pale in comparison compared to P4's and A64's

Well the fact is tetsuo, some of us already have socket A motherboards, and we dont want to/have the money to go out and buy another one.

Its true that P4's and A64's are alot better, but I cant be arsed to buy a new motherboard :P

If were in your shoes about deciding on a processor (which I am), then I'd go w/the XP series of AMD processors (which I'm going to).

Thats just me though. I personally wouldn't touch a Duron.

you're still thinking of the old Durons...the new ones have a better architure than the old T-Birds so don't judge them on old information
