I've gotten a few .IMG files recently and i know there like .iso's but i have no idea how to burn these.

Also it seems like every time i try to burn a cd with alcohol 120% or magiciso (or wher ever its called), it completly locks up the program. (im about to do my tri monthly formating lol soo if it doesnt work after that im going to be confused as all hell)

umm, try disk defragmentor for your probs.
those img files should have a ccd file with them, sometimes a cue. if its for, per say, an app of some kind, then you shouldnt really need the ccd or cue, if its for a saturn/sega mega cd/tg16 cd/certain pc or certain psx game, then i suggest finding the ccd or cue for the audio tracks. btw the img files are more like bin files, raw untampered images of the cds, than an iso. you can burn them with alcohol 120%

damm im tired

I use CDRWin for all my iso burning on Windows.

Two more reasons why Windows sucks ass in this thread:
1) Defraging
2) Formatting

A lot of the bigger name games are coming out on both platforms now. Sometimes it takes them a while to convert it over and it comes out around a year later (damn you C&C Generals) but they are still coming at least. It's mostly the smaller companies and lesser known games that don't make as much money that don't get ported. Maybe what they need is a really awesome game that is only out on Mac to make more companies realize. Like that would ever happen sometime soon though.

like i said. but then again the main companies do this for $$$ and $$$ alone. ¿why? because they can. not to insult the great programmers behind them, im sure many of them would love to make a linux game, but they dont call the shots, the ones i am trying to insult are calling the shots

Macs are cool and all. But, I'd still like a nice beefy PC running my games (the key words are "I'd still like a nice beefy PC";). Is there any difference performance wise between the Mac or PC version of the cross platform games?

Why not a beefy Mac. I'd rather have a PowerMac G5 then any PC. Converting Mac speeds to PC isn't a 1:1 ratio. A 1 Ghz Mac is not the same speed as a 1 Ghz PC. It's a bit closer to 1.5 to 2 times the speed depending on what you are doing.

Of the games I have on both PC and Mac it's kind of hard to compare. I have Starcraft, Diablo II, Age of Empires II and a bunch of even older abandonware games (I love those BTW). But those games are all so old they run perfectly on an old system. Command and Conquer Generals is the newest one I have on both computers and it runs perfectly fine on both systems. Would probably be able to run it on high graphic settings though if I had a better video card. It's only a Geforce 5200FX Go 32MB or something like that if I remember.

The only thing that really sucks is that most games don't have Mac <> PC networking for multiplay. It's just Mac <> Mac and PC <> PC. That's one thing I love Blizzard for. There's is all cross platform.

I forget what I was getting at with this post but hopefully I made some kind of point.

The first computer I owned was an Apple II and that was in 1995 and when I finally got the chance to buy an up to date one. I picked the PC over the IMac (you know the George Forman grill looking one) because it had better compatibility, (not just with games, but with everything I wanted to do with it) a cheaper price (along with more software and hardware) and to be honest the PC had a right click button on the mouse. I thought I may had made a wrong decision, but after reading up on the Imac I found that it was un-upgradable, wouldn't of been compatible with the programs/emulators/games I wanted to run and the future OS' weren't available for it. So instead of kicking myself in the ass for a wrong choice...I actually patted it :P .

I get some Mac envy every now and then because the newer ones are like the Mercedes Benz' of computing (the PowerMac G5 you mentioned is awesome). I'd still rather have to get under the hood of my PC and fix it up. My PC is like some old Chevy, it may be ugly, it may have it's (sometimes major) problems and have a dog riding in the back (hehe Windows Me, although I'm dual booting with Windows 2000 nowadays). I'm just sold on the PC and think that for all it's set backs it's got the edge on the Macs (for now).

Did you just recently buy a Mac? If I remember right you didn't mention owning one in the last System specs thread I read. You own C&C: Generals (Zero Hour too)? If only I had broadband a skirmish would be fun.

Hehe, wasn't this thread about an .img file or something?

Macs are upgradable. You can upgrade the video card, hard drives, RAM, processors (to a certain extent, you can't upgrade a G4 to a G5 but same as you can't upgrade a PII to a PIV without a new mobo). They can be upgraded just like PC's can. The parts aren't as available as PC parts are that's for sure but they still can be upgraded. I'm not sure about the older macs though. I have no idea what those can do.

Oh and pretend I'm saying something about .img files so this isn't off topic :P

The Imac I almost bought wouldn't of ran OS X in the first place. So it'd be like if I did buy it, I would be running a Mac95 in a MacXP world.

That .img file question is so perplexing (still trying to find the answer)... :P
