Ive downloaded a whole set of roms.. there in a .rar file.. i open that and there are roms that end in .bin... i couldnt find a way to extract those .bin rom files... would they be playable on a emu, or is there a way to extract a rom file that ends in .bin. thanks

those are cue files i believe, you open them with Nero or daemon tools on a virtual drive

you could get something like winISO, that lets you extract the contents of bin's (And other disc images) without the need for virtual drives or burning or anything.

I tried winISO.. it didnt work, it just extracted it to .bin :P which it already was... all the roms files end in .bin, i tried to use a few programs but had no luck extracting it back to normal

Take that .bin, and open it up in Nero. (file, open, and then select "all files";), that should let you burn the cd image that it is. Unless of course it was some kind of an sfx package meant for a linux system, but I highly doubt that. If you burn the CD, the roms should be there.

hmm can make a cue file and then run it on a virtual drive (using alcohol 120). Thats about all I can think of, instead of course burning it.

Most importantly, what emulator are you using?

just download daemon tools, http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/download.php?mode=ViewCategory&catid=5
and try to load the bin file from the menu.

I got an idea. Put the Zircon ones on...but mysteriously they all yield GBA roms...!

RaF, Ziptal's right. Daemon tools shoould work for it. It'll show up just like another drive, and then you can pull the roms off of that.

Am I missing something? When has a CD-rom drive emulator ever been necessary to play cartridge/non-CD games?

http://vecna.verge-rpg.com/chasms/ for the Master System emulator.

http://www.megagames.com/news/html/emulators/mess0562.shtml for a muti-system emulator that supports channel f.

These should load and play the roms fine.

rjd, you are indeed missing something. What he downloaded was not the .bin file for a single game (at least I don't think it was. . . HAVE you tried that, RaF?), but the .bin portion of a bin/cue CD image.

I'm missing the validity of this disc. It should be a data. The roms would show up and kick you in the nuts.

=P Hey rjd, guess who's a moron? That's right, Me!

RaF said preeeetty clearly that a bunch of ROMS were in .bin format. I could have sworn he said that he downloaded a .bin that was supposed to be a bunch of roms, but he sure as hell didn't!!!

So, RaF; Get an emulator for whatever system those were for, and open one up in it. Are they MAME or something?

In troubleshooting it is a good idea to think that you aren't automatically right all the time. You ain't no moron by the way.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Sega Master System is .sms extension. Genesis and some SegaCD are .bin extension. Never seen a SMS rom that's a .bin ;)

that helps a lot... "Sega Master System is .sms extension" thats what i have.. and the genesis are .bin files.. i was just worried when ppl downloaded them they wouldnt be able to play them.. as long as it works then its all good.. i dont have the time to download a emu and try the systems with .bin files out.. thanks
